PastorJonesWelcome to the Mission Department of the Mid-South District

By Rev. Todd Jones,
Executive Assistant to the District President for Congregational Health and Outreach

"Executive Assistant to the District President for Congregational Health and Outreach" has got to be one of the longest titles for a position I’ve ever seen. However, each part of the title has a specific encouragement for those served by ministries of the Mid-South District.

First, I have been called to serve as a resource for President Lampe to carry out his vision of revitalizing our District ministries. Our District, as with most, has seen its average worship attendance decline over the last ten years. We want to reverse that trend. Our vision is to see our ministries become vibrant centers of healing and restoration as the Word is shared in a culturally relevant manner and the Sacraments are faithfully administered.

That is the point of the middle phrase of my title, “Congregational Health.” Growth in worship numbers does not always indicate the health of a congregation. However, often the lack of growth indicates that there are underlying issues that prevent the congregation from being effective in its mission. The Word of God is always powerful and effective. It is certainly true that the Lord desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Most often, the disconnect in our mission is us. Through tools such as the Transformation Process, Pastoral Coaching, and Leadership Development workshops I hope that we can be a part of the congregations’ fitness program.

I will also have as a major focus in my ministry Outreach. I will seek a variety of tools and resources that can be used to be more effective in sharing the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ beyond our walls. I don’t envision this process involving pre-packaged evangelism programs, from the District office to the congregation. Rather, I hope our District office can help cutting edge congregations discover new resources and tools for outreach while providing time tested resources ministries can use to be more effective in getting the Gospel into their neighborhoods.

If you have questions or specific suggestions, give me a call or send me an email. I’m here to serve.
